WWE Smackdown Results, Thoughts and Spoilers 06/01/2012

Hello all and welcome to the blog of Royal Mumblings!
A wrestling blog and eventually podcast with the point of view of British WWE fans. We will aim to post results and news as soon as possible along with thoughts on WWE shows and PPV events.

Smackdown 06/01/2012
This week's Smackdown started with a flashback to last weeks episode in which Randy Orton was 'injured' at the hands of Wade Barret. This was your standard WWE flashback promo. Personally I really like the whole Wade Barret and Randy Orton feud. I think it's very effective and the two always manage to deliver some good matches. Anyway, on with the show.

Cody Rhodes DEF. Booker T.
Booker T is welcomed to the arena with a good reaction to the crowd and Cody the opposite, no change there... Booker starts off strong and hits some powerful blows but it is short lived before Cody does the same. It starts very back and forth with 'Booker T' chants from the crowd when Cody is in control.  Booker soon pulls back the momentum and uses a few good spots to work the crowd. Cody Rhodes pulls it back after a high risk moonsault. He looks like he lands funny on his knee and appears to limp for a few seconds but soon returns to normality. Another change in momentum sees Booker hits the Scissor Kick to the absolute delight of the crowd in attendance but unfortunately the count falls short at 2. Booker tries for 1 more but Cody counters and picks up the win after his signature springboard kick to retain the Intercontinental Championship.
Booker T waves goodbye to the crowd and leaves the ring looking emotional. Was this Booker's last Hoorah? Or will we see more of him in the future? Leave thoughts in the comments.

Here in the UK we got a clip 'From The Vault' Chris Jericho VS Rey ysterio from 2009, pretty solid match and a win for Rey Mysterio to defeat a Heel Chris Jericho.

A promo from Cody Rhodes where he bumps into his older brother Dustin Rhodes (Golddust) in the backstage area. It's no secret that Cody Rhodes is a fantastic promo guy. Hopefully Golddust will get his wish for a match with Cody at Wrestlemania in a IC title Vs Career match.

Up next we see Zack Ryder, who I'm quickly becoming bored of. for a guy who I wanted to see so badly on WWE TV I'm quickly becoming annoyed by his persona. However, Drew McIntyre on Smackdown is always a good thing even if it is against Santino...

Yet another promo here involving Alicia Fox, AJ and Daniel Bryan. Hinting at an Attitude Era type romance between AJ and Bryan. I think I'd like to see AJ become a manager to Bryan and use her in future storylines to really give her the push she needs as well as give Daniel Bryan a bit of an edge outside of the ring.

Hornswoggle DEF Heath Slater
An over the top rope challenge between 'The One Man Southern Rock Band' Heath Slater and Hornswoggle. Most likely entertaining for younger fans but I really don't like Heath Slater and Hornswoggle is entertaining in promos but to actually put him in the ring? Please no more. After the match Heath Slater attacks Hornswoggle but it is quickly interrupted by Justin Gabriel. Hinting at a future rivalry between the former tag team partners. I look forward to seeing Gabriel defeat Slater in future editions of Smackdown.

Hunico DEF Ted DiBiase
Next up Smackdown regular and new found fan favourite Ted Dibiase takes on the soon to be irrelevant Hunico in Singles competition, I really don't understand how people like Hunico get regular spots on Smackdown when talented young stars like Michael Mcgillicutty are limited to NXT and Superstars every week. Don't get me wrong Hunico is a talented guy I just think there are better wrestlers than him currently working the lesser watched shows.
The momentum in this match is back and forth with a few high impact moves but mostly just Hunico wearing down Dibiase before picking up the win with an unfamiliar pin.

Wade Barret is fastly becoming one if WWE's hottest young talents, it wouldn't surprise me if we see him with the World Heavyweight Championship around his waist before the end of 2012. assuming he's booked well. We see the footage from last week again only for Wade Barret to reveal that Randy Orton's career is over... However, we all know that's not true.
Upon Barret running his mouth for another minute my pick for The Royal Rumble walks down to the ring to deliver a funny promo about how Barret enjoys running his mouth. Speaking of which here comes the ever boring Jinder Mahal to deliver a slap accross the face of The Great White. Sheamus attacks Mahal and Barret joins in. Just as Sheamus appears to have the edge on the two Heel superstars Barret delivers The Winds Of Change and Sheamus is left to the hands of Jinder Mahal who delivers The Camel Clutch. Why involve Jinder Mahal? I would rather have seen a good back and forth promo between Wade Barret and Sheamus. What are your thoughts on Jinder Mahal?

Santino Marella DEF Drew McIntyre
As previously stated anytime Drew McIntyre is in the ring I am interested. even if it against the ever entertaining Santino.
Drew McIntyre delivers some high impact offence and a few dirty tricks (choking etc). A quick counter from Santino and he hits the Cobra leaving Drew McIntyre laying in the ring to the delight of the crowd and many younger fans.
A short promo between Drew McIntyre and Teddy Long declares that if Drew McIntyre loses next week he will be off of the Smackdown roster.

Primo & Epico DEF Air Boom
A fast paced start to the match between Evan Bourne and Epico but it's not long before Kofi Kingston sees some action. Epico is quickly in control of Kofi and the deafening sound of Rosa Mendes screaming sees Primo tagged in. Primo keeps the momentum that Epico started  and stays on top of Kofi. A counter sees Evan Bourne tagged and he builds momentum with a few high risk moves and running attacks. Epico saves the match and breaks up a fall. A distraction from Rosa Mendes eliminates Kofi from the match and Evan misses the Air Bourne causing a pin from Primo to pick up the victory over the champions.
A good tag team contest hinting at the possibility if new champions in the near future.

A quick promo interview from The Big Show and Daniel Bryan shows potentially a new attitude from the champion. He almost reminds me of CM Punk in his attitude declaring he's 'a damn good wrestler' and acting tough to The Big Show earning himself a few boos from the crowd.

Tamina DEF Natalya
This is the first I'm seeing of Tamina Snuka, and judging by this match a rivalry between her and a very vocal Natalya would be no bad thing. a few high impact and good technical manoeuvres from these two Diva's reminds us how Women's wrestling should be. A great end to the match from Tamina impersonating (for lack of a better word) her father The Superfly.

Daniel Bryan DEF The Big Show
Daniel Bryan showing a new cocky Heel attitude in his first title defence against The Big Show. a good main event with a lot of high impact moves and changes in momentum. also a surprisingly entertaining Mark Henry on commentary. Daniel Bryan is fluent and a great entertainer as always while The Big Show takes the knock and sometimes provides some good moves including a high impact spear which seemed to knock the wind out of Bryan. The Big Show also shows the ability to still work up a crowd with a simple taunt. Daniel Bryan draws blood from the mouth and the two men gave it everything they had in a very entertaining yet short competition! Unfortunately the match is cut short by DQ which is becoming too much of a regular occurrence in WWE at the moment.

If you made it through the whole Post thanks for reading I'll be back next week with Raw and Smackdown results!
